PARENTING

Basic Course

Our 5-7 week introductory course introduces foundational lessons related to discipline, self-esteem, ACES, child development, responding to feelings, and collaborating well with family, friends, and other guardians who assist with raising a child.

Intermediate Course

Our intermediate courses build upon the basic lessons and can build up to six-months of programming introducing concepts related to life stages, co-parenting, introducing sexual health, passing along culture, important aspects of social-emotional learning, etc.

Advanced Course

Our advance course further builds upon the basic and intermediate lessons and is comprehensive enough for an entire 9-12 month program.

Our Instructor: Jason Francis

Jason is a graduate student at Hood College, where he is pursuing his Master of Science in Counseling. With a rich background in pastoral ministry, holding both a BA in Theology and a Master of Divinity, Jason has dedicated his life to serving others. His commitment extends beyond traditional ministry, as he has developed and implemented intentional youth development programs in partnership with various community agencies.

In his current role with the Frederick Housing Authority, Jason excels as a Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) programming coach. His passion for nurturing emotional intelligence is evident not only in his professional pursuits but also in his personal life. As a loving father of three, Jason brings a unique and authentic perspective to his work. His journey in parenting and coaching began in 2016 when he embraced the role of a foster parent, focusing on the critical goal of reunification. This experience has deeply informed his approach to parenting education.

For the past three years, Jason has been actively teaching parenting classes, drawing on his extensive experience to empower other parents. His approach is grounded in real-life experience, empathy, and a deep understanding of the challenges and joys of parenthood. As he continues his academic journey, Jason aspires to elevate the emotional intelligence of the next generation, both through his professional endeavors and his personal example as a dedicated father and mentor.
